User needs and application areas

The HC-REMA project aims at providing different types of health care professionals with a set of tools (the HC-REMA software package) for building decision support systems for resource management optimization and quality control of health care policies in selected areas, such as instrumentation purchase, therapy assessment and trial and screening scheduling. HC-REMA will be designed in such a way to be integrated into a pre-existing (if any) distributed Health Care Information System. The HC-REMA tools will be based on decision-analytic models incorporating an explicit knowledge representation about economic evaluation. The use of explicit analytic models in a collaborative, multi-agent scenario has the advantage of making explicit both the cost and effectiveness components, and the responsibility of different decision makers for different decision variables. In general, a model will be composed of different submodels, each one detailing the expertise of a specific health care professional. Both building and using the model will improve communication among different health care professionals and the transparency and rigour of the collaborative decision-making process.
